About the GIF Trimmer

The GIF Trimmer cuts an animated GIF down to the range of frames you actually want. Upload a GIF, scrub to your first and last frame, preview the selection playing on a loop, and download the trimmed animation with its original frame timings intact. Parsing and re-encoding both happen in your browser — there's no upload and no server doing the work.

How to use the GIF Trimmer

Frequently asked questions

Is the trimmed GIF identical in quality to the original?

Not quite. The GIF is fully re-encoded, and the output shares a single 256-colour palette built from the most common colours across your kept frames. Screen recordings, UI captures and flat graphics normally look unchanged; photographic or very colourful GIFs can show some colour banding.

Does it keep transparency?

No — transparent areas are flattened in the output. If your GIF depends on transparency, this isn't the right tool for it.

Will the trimmed GIF still loop?

Yes. The output is always set to loop forever, whatever the original was set to.

Are the frame delays preserved?

Yes. Every kept frame keeps its original delay, so the trimmed section plays at exactly the speed it did in the source.

Why does a big GIF take a while?

Because all the work happens in your browser on this page rather than on a server. A long or high-resolution GIF has a lot of frames to decode and recompress, so leave the tab open until it finishes.
